The Summer Before University
Getting read to go to college takes a lot of preparation. You have to buy so many things and prepare so much!. You need to purchase supplies for both living and for school. You’re preparing to spend a year in a brand new home. You will spend a good deal of money while getting ready for college, but you will make it through. Buying a laptop and a bed set will probably cost the most money. I suggest looking into a used laptop if you are tight on cash. A refurbished laptop may sound dangerous, but in reality they can be very reliable and cheap.
When preparing for your college shopping excursions, allow a couple days because it is highly unlikely that you will find everything you need in one day or have the time to. You will need to visit multiple stores and will most likely remember some things you didn’t know you needed while you are out. Defiantly don’t take all you younger siblings along with you either. I would keep it small, such as you and you parents or even just one parent. It makes sense to get all your room supplies one day and all your pencils and thing the next.
Your wardrobe needs to be taken into consideration as well. You have to plan according to the weather of where your new home is. You may not get the chance to come home before the weather starts to get cold, so take some supplies. If this isn’t a possibility, you can always have your parents shop for you and mail you the clothing as the weather starts to turn. Just in case, take a winter coat up with you in the fall so at least you have a little protection from the weather.
Mail can be a savior to college students. When mom sends a care package from home life improves so much. Mom can afford to splurge on some good quality hair shampoo and brand name Cheetos and laundry detergent for you every few months. Since you probably don’t have much money., mom and dad will have to buy you these things sometimes. When you receive one of these packages, you will realize how much you value these everyday products you have been missing.
College is so much fun but scary as well. It is the time you prepare to be a full adult. You will learn to take car of yourself and your money and time. However, you have mom and dad to call when you need help.
One day mom and dad won’t be there to help with buying things or doing things for you, so you should take advantage of it while you have it. Just remember that doing things on your own will teach you how to deal in the real world.
