Becoming A Registered Nurse Offers Several Career Options
Career advancement options for registered nurses vary like in most careers. For some nurses who have been working in the field for awhile may feel they need to advance to management. Keep in mind however unless the RN holds a BS or higher degree their options could be limited. The good news is that if an RN who has an Associates Degree or is a Diploma nurse wants to earn their BSN even while working it is possible.
There are a lot of universities who offer bsn programs geared toward current RNs who do not currently have a bachelors degree. Being able to continue ones health education is good news for those wanting to climb the career ladder. This appears to be the case even when an RN is working full time.
In today’s world many people who think about a nursing career may think a nurse is limited to working in a hospital setting and only working with patients. Of course that is what many would expect but todays nurses have many more career options available. If they want to be a nurse but prefer not to work with patients it is possible. If they want to advance their careers it is possible.
In today’s competitive career environment many people decide to return to college to get an advanced degree. This also appears to be the case for RNs that have not yet earned a BS or higher degree. However if they wish to go beyond that it is possible. Due to this additional option some RNs are taking the higher degree route instead.
In addition to RNs wanting to enter a management role others are choosing to advance their careers in a different fashion. More specifically some nurses are getting beyond a traditional career of working with patients to pursue other goals.
More specifically some decide to venture into the legal side of things by becoming a legal nurse. Once they go this route they may never work with patients again. This is a personal career choice that many may come to at some point. It is nice to have such an option no matter whether one takes it or not.
The career option of legal nursing consulting is popular among some nurses. Not all obviously choose to go this route as many enjoy working with and helping patients. But there is a need for legal nurses as well. A career options such as this may only be available for experienced RNs to consider.
Career advancement options are not limited to legal and traditional nursing. Another option may be in another related field in a different way. Becoming a case manager also seems to be another career path of interest to many nurses.
Regardless of the path one takes the options available for nurses to expand their careers are many. Options and flexibility for current and future nurses is great news. This may also help steer those into the field who are still considering all options. For many people having the additional options later in ones career can help them to decide to initially enter that field.
